Wastin' Away Again in MVA-Ville (And an awesome dresser to make up for it)

Warning: LOTS of words ahead.  Skip to the bottom if you are a pictures only person.

What a day yesterday was.  What a day.  Not in a good way.  I am usually a very upbeat person, but yesterday beat me up, and then kept kicking me while I was down.  And we are friends, right?  So I can be honest with you all, and complain every now and again, right?  I promise I won't make it a regular thing.

Let me also preface by saying that Chris is away for work this week, so I am single mom.  And let me also tell you (boys, no need to read this next line!) I have had my period for 12 days.... yes you read that right.  12 days.  I have no idea why, but needless to say I am not happy about it!  A) It's just not fun.  B) It's messing with my emotions.

So, the day started out with my discovering that Sawyer had left our basement freezer door open ALL NIGHT LONG- open for 12 hours long.  Bye bye meats, hello water.  I got the kids dressed, fed, ready, and headed to the car to get to the bus stop.  While heading to the car, I discovered that Emmy had not put the lid on the outdoor toy storage (as she was supposed to after she picked up her toys).  We had a giant storm last night, so the bin was so full of water I couldn't even lift it to get the water out, and had to wait a little while for some to evaporate.  Anyhow, we made it to the bus stop, and Emmy and I headed to the grocery store.  Because I had discovered we were almost out of dog food (Chris' responsibility to keep that filled, so insert some growling on my part).  On our way to the grocery store, I had a cop behind me.  I was going the speed limit, but was pulled over. Why?  Because my car's registration had been suspended because we hadn't changed the address.  UGH.  Again, Chris takes care of that stuff, but he had said it wasn't necessary (or so he was told when he called in the Fall).... Apparently it was.  The officer was very nice and gave me a warning and told me to go to the store and then go home and take care of it.

So, I went to the store, went home, and gathered up everything I needed and headed to the MVA with Emmy.  I waited there for 1 hour and 15 minutes, only to finally get to my turn and have the man say, "Have you been married or divorced at all?"  Well, yes, I was married in 2003.  And then he told me the laws have recently changed and before I can do anything I need to go to the SS Administration and change that and then come back.  So I waited in line for that time and got nowhere.  I came home and printed out what I need for the SS Admin, but I have to go back today since I had to be at the school for Sawyer's writing festival and had no more time left yesterday.  I spent the 30 minute drive home crying off and on, feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, angry.  Am I aware that most of this was my fault?  Well, yeah, I am sure it is... BUT they don't make it easy to understand all the laws and rules, and Chris even called them yesterday and was told something other than what I was told.

So, it was a pretty awful day.  Let's move on and look at something pretty. :)  Recently I got a new dresser for my room (if you are new here, it is the one in my header), which replaced the mid century dresser I just had to have a while back.  I never thought I would replace that one, I love it so much!  Anyhow, here is the mid century dresser to refresh your memory:

I still loved it, so we decided we would use it as a TV stand in the playroom.   Well, when Chris realized it would fit down there, he asked if instead we could use the white credenza we had, because it would work better with the cable box/dvd player/etc.

So I said that was fine by me, but now what was I going to do with this dresser..... I could NOT get rid of it.  SO, I started thinking about putting it in Emmy's room because we need a slightly larger dresser (or she needs less clothes!).  With that in mind, I set to work painting it.  After I painted it, I decided that in fact it probably won't work in her room.  My new dilemma is I love it even MORE repainted and have nowhere to put it.  So I am just hanging on to it at the moment and thinking and thinking.  Would you like to see its new look?

Let me tell you what I did first.... I painted it a very soft pale pink (the same pink as Emmy's vanity) called "Dream Whip" by Benjamin Moore.  Then I taped off the feet and rub n buffed them in gold leaf.  And here it is now, waiting to find its place in my world.  (And pardon the pictures.... Without Chris here I could only drag it a couple feet and was afraid I would damage it!)

So there you have it- something pretty to lift the mood!

And my day didn't end badly.  Sawyer had a reading and writing festival at school....

And my neighbor watched the kids for an hour so I could get a walk in (which helps me stay on this side of sanity!)  Here is a picture from my walk...

Wish me luck- I am heading all over the county today to try to get this worked out.

Yuck...had a few of those MVA days myself...waiting and getting nowhere...coming back and waiting again...no fun! Isn't it nice to take a walk in a beautiful place after all of that?

Cassie, Honey, i think you are jinxed - just read your story on my iPhone. stood up, dropped my phone on the ground (it literally JUMPED out of my hands) and smashed on the floor. screen totally smashed... your crappy day has suckered me in too.
and it's called perimenopause. not good....
hope things get better
cheers Fiona

Being alone with the kids for a week is hard enough! I can't believe all the bad luck you had yesterday. The MVA is the worst - we had a problem and they told us something different every time we tried to resolve it. It ended with Steve yelling and a state trooper telling him to lower his voice!

Hope you are having a better day today and looking forward to your trip this weekend!

Don't you just hate days like that? I've had my fair share (usually around that time of the month), and they are just maddening! I think it's part of the MVA's mission to reduce people to tears, as I have been there, done that myself. The dresser looks lovely though!

Oh, poor poodle! I hope the rest of your week gets better. Have a cupcake or a wheat grass shake, or whatever it is you healthy people have!
Love the new blog look :)

OH! I'm sorry you've had such a day, don't we all get them sometimes! I hope tommorrow brings something special!
I love your dresser, beautiful lines and I love those gold feet!

OH Cassie!! I've been there, we've probably all been there, a Murphy's Law day where everything that could possibly go wrong does! How about a do-over today?
Have a great day beautiful friend!!!!!

Sounds like one should never use the phone when dealing with the MVA...no matter the rules, the person at the desk in front of you is going to determine whether you make it through, even if they're spouting incorrect information. I had a lady at the Driver's License Office tell me one thing despite me having printed out the rules from the website and showing them to her.

Anyway, Sorry about your luck. The dresser looks great.

Aww, Cassie hun that sucks. My cycle does that sometimes if I'm under a lot of stress or if it's shifting. I had three months where I would have long cycles like that. Not fun. Just make sure to eat plenty of food rich in iron.
As for the DMV, they are a pain. When Garry and I got married last year it was a huge pain in the butt to get everything changed over just for my license. They certainly don't make it easy for anyone.
The dresser is really cute too and I love the new layout of your blog.

Makes me feel a bit more normal to hear someone else talking about so many things going wrong in one day. I always think how is it possible that everything that can go wrong has gone wrong in such a short amount of time.I guess it's not just me! Sorry you had such a rough time of it!

UGH! I'm so sorry you had such a horrible day and you can absolutely vent when you need to. It's your blog and you can cry if you want to.

On the bright side, that dresser looks amazing. I love the gold feet and you definitely need to find a spot for it (but it would probably sell in 2.5 seconds if you put it in your store).

Praying that your day goes super smoothly today and that it all gets taken care of!

Oh my, what a day! One thing after another! I don't know why the MVA has to be such a challenge! Kevin spent a few hours there yesterday too. He said he waited in five different lines. Not fun!... Hopefully today will be a better day! And gosh, that dresser just makes everything better - super sweet!

Love the new blog design, I forgot to tell you that the other day.

Bleahh! on days like that! Hope a good night's sleep has given you a fresh start for today. And the dresser is way cute! Love the gold legs.

Yikes! What a day you had, I have definitely had those before. It's like negative energy is attracted to you for a few hours and there's not much you can do about it.

Sorry about your craptastic day! And your never ending period. You should take a trip yourself. And make the husband deal with all of this when he gets back. Here to help! ;) Hope today is MUCH better!!

Big hugs to you, Cassie! Sorry your day was so cruddy. It's funny (not haha, obviously) how stuff like seems to happen all at once. Hope it's all done for you now and that today is better!

UGH! Days like that are the worst!!! I'm sorry it was so bad! But hopefully it will get better!

Love the dresser! Once again you did a beautiful job!

oh girl, been there, been there, BEEN THERE! Recently waited at the DMV with my 2.5 year old and my 6 month old only to get to the counter and be sent away. We, too, had called ahead, ahem THREE times, to make sure that we had our ducks in a row. So frustrating. My boys did better than I did, ha! :) Wishing you good things for today :)

love the color on that dresser and the gold feet - perfection! Sorry - your day was such a mess! I hate days like that - praying you have a better one today- and that your monthly visitor goes away!

I'm a picture person, but cause I love ya, I read the entire post. ;)
I've not had to deal with that, but insurance is my run-around pet peeve. It's those days I wish I had a personal assistant to deal with those headaches. I'm so sorry Chris was out of town, and your VISITOR has been around for so long. That's bad.
I'm hoping the day/week improves.
LOVE the dresser, I sure hope you find a place to put it.

Argh! I've been married the same amount of time and STILL have something like that happen at least once a year. I thought computers were going to centralize information for us and make life easier?

The 12 days...honey, you need some red meat and stat.

Iron pills would also not be amiss.

Allison@FabRehab said...

Yes, yes, yes! When I started reading "taped off the legs....rub-n-buff" I think I moaned under my breath. In a good way. It is fabulous!

Love you friend! Sorry for the icky day, period, and temporary single motherhood. BUT - that dresser still knocks my socks off. YOu MUST find a home for it. YOU MUST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh friend, I feel your pain! & you have every right to be frustrated!! Lots of sucky things in a row like that can real bum a person out, even one with a generally upbeat happy attitude like you have. You know how I felt about that dresser before, & now it is even more dreamy! DEFINITELY keep it! Or else you will have to answer to ME! Lol xo love u! Good luck out there.

Wow what a horrible day! Sometimes it's a good thing they're only 24 hours long! :) On the bright side, I LOVE that dresser! The rub n buff on the legs was a brilliant move.

Ok, first, 12 DAYS!?!?!?! That, in itself, is insanity!! And then everything else to boot. Man oh man, thank goodness for pretty pink mid-century dressers. :)

What a day Cassie, I'm sorry it was so tough. I hate those days when it seems like it's just one thing going wrong after another, they are the worst.

On the other hand, I love the pink dresser. I think the gold dipped legs really make it! Beautiful job.

yuk - I hated going through all the rigamarole at the MVA. Sorry it was such a pain and at the worst time ever for you!

Very pretty dresser - especially love the gold feet, that look is very cool. I can't believe how quickly you get your projects done! I'm slower than a tortoise!

Allison said...

I hope today was a much better day for you! Sorry you had the day you had yesterday. No fun! That pink dresser is a gorgeous piece!

I also hope your day was much much better than yesterday - wow Cassie love that dresser with gold feet! Nice color - pink can be hard to choose..

It's so... wait for it.

Pretty In Pink ;)

Love the soft gold feet, it's such a pretty touch of glam!

Now, onto the period thing! I feel you pain girl. Have you had a recent pap? If not, please get one. Heavy bleeding can be serious. Not to scare you, but don't take it lightly.

Hugs and stuff. All that legal crap is always SUCH a pain in the butt.

Oh Cassie!!! That sounds like a day from HELL!! I cannot believe all those things happened in the morning, but that didn't even seem to be the worst of it! Of course Chris was out of town. Days like this only occur when your husband is guaranteed to not be coming home any time soon.

Your dresser looks gorgeous. Still have not tried rub n buff. It is a challenge to get groceries these days. My life is a spinning top that will hopefully fall over and stop when school gets out next week.

Gorgeous picture from your walk. So glad you got a sanity break! Hope tomorrow is far better. -K

I'm sorry you've had such a crappy day! Things always go wrong when my husband leaves town, too. Once we had a stray dog lay down and die in our back yard. It was winter, the ground was frozen, and I had to bury it. Fun times.
It sounds like a complete physical would be a good idea. When my daughter's thyroid was off, she had crazy periods.

The dresser is gorgeous! You always make things looks 100% better!

oh man, so sorry you had such a bad day! the dresser looks amazing with the dipped legs-and this is just what i am looking to do with a hall table i have. i was going to spray paint, but would you say the rub n buff was easier? the legs on my table have ridges, so the rub n buff would be able to get in there? do you use a paintbrush? oh lordy, i'm lost and too scared to actually try anything!
